AudioFile Magazine...
Legendary veterinarian Herriot (ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL) worked most of his life with the farmers of the Yorkshire Dales. These eight short stories, read by Jim Dale in the voice of Herriot, recount the illnesses, surprises, and puzzles surrounding the cows, pigs, cats and working sheep dogs found on many English farms. With equal skill he portrays the sadness of the aged Farmer Dakon, who is selling his favorite cow, Blossom, and the amazement of those who rescued Moses the kitten, found almost frozen to death. Dale employs a variety of entirely convincing rural accents in his portrayals of the country folk who ask for the vet's help and share their tales with him. He also captures all the kindness of the beloved Herriot in this collection for animal lovers of all ages. R.H.H. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award (c) AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine
